So, Emory Williams is not the guy?

The 2024 Pop-Tarts Bowl came and went and with it the end to Cam Wards career at Miami. This season was a ton of fun. From the offense, to the offense, to the offense, everything was perfect until the defense ruined it all. So, we move on…

But what are we moving on with? After failing to land any commitments from the first wave of portal quarterbacks, fans were forced to look at the current roster for the heir apparent. That list was small. Returning Sophomore Emory Williams or incoming true Freshman Luke Nickel. The bowl game was going to provide a glimpse of what 2025 was going to look like as we were all sure Emory would get some serious run in the game.

Cam Ward left the matchup following halftime and the reins were handed over to the kid we all wanted to see. How had he progressed in the 18 months since we last saw him? How different would the play calling look without Cam taking the snaps? These were the questions all of us wanted answers too as the second half began.

We were all very disappointed.

This was Clemson and FSU all over again. They had him hand it off 75% of the time and when he threw, it was generally horizontal. Are you fucking kidding me? I’m not here to bash Emory. If he’s got the talent to be QB1 great, if not, we move on. I do not wish any ill-will on the young man. Worst case, he goes down in Miami lore as a freshman backup who beat Clemson and sacrificed his body to try and beat FSU. Pretty solid ground to be on. My bigger issue is that this staff put together this gameplan as his audition. What did we learn? Absolutely nothing!

Well, that’s not entirely true. We learned that we might be severely fucked next year when it comes to scoring at least 30 PPG.
